A New Black Panther Party Should be BLACK
Reflecting on my most recent video
Hey all, it’s been a while since I wrote on Substack. I will essentially be using this platform to cover things that I don't have the time to cover in an entire video. So today's topic is answering the major, most common question I saw in the comments.
Before I go any further, I’d like to thank you all for the crazy amount of support. I uploaded my first video about 3 weeks ago, and we are close to 3000 subscribers. I didn’t think the black panther video would have performed as well as it did. Very glad you all enjoyed it.
But of course, with any content like this comes deep questions (which I typically appreciate). I decided to dive deeper into the question I have the most to say about. In hindsight, I should have been able to predict this would be the most asked question(s).
Why just a black party, and what can I do if I am not black?
I am sure most of you mean well, so let me explain where I am coming from.
As I said in the video, a new black revolutionary organization today would find itself better equipped to address the unique problems within the black community. That is honestly the only reason I advocate for a black organization.
Any revolutionary organization that isn't a Black revolutionary organization will likely never be equipped to combat these unique problems.
Most non-black people don't know about the diaspora wars, but it is important to address when deconstructing colonialism and anti-blackness within the community. A black revolutionary can shut down notions of black capitalism and black liberalism within their community without facing accusations of being a racist outsider.
Many of you have interpreted this as "white man bad," but I never actually said that or implied that at any point in the video. You interpreted that from my video because your implicit (subconscious/unintentional) bias makes you believe that a pro-black organization that only has black members is anti-everyone else.
Women having a women-only group is not misandry. Queers having an LGBTQ only group is not "Heterophobic." They are safe spaces for marginalized groups to discuss their unique condition and how to maneuver through it.
These accusations of “segregation" are only said when it's a black group. Never said to any other group based on one marginalized demographic. Why do you think that is? I need y'all to unlearn this bias quickly so we can move forward.
The rainbow coalition was a coalition of several diverse groups. The Black Panthers (Black), The Young Lords (Latino), and The Young Patriots (White). See how they kept their separate groups to address their unique community needs, then came together to fight against our collective issues?
If you are not black, but the organizational ideas I addressed in the video interest you, then you honestly have a lot of options. If you are seeking a diverse group, then join an existing left organization and maintain your radical beliefs. If you live in an area you feel is overlooked by left organizations, then start your own. The Black Panthers gave us all the blueprint, and I made another one. As long as you are doing something to stay organized, you are doing well.
If you all simply ignored everything I stated here, just remember this:
I believe the end goal should be a revolutionary party. A revolutionary party that includes ALL demographics to unite and mobilize the diverse working class. To lay the groundwork for that, a black revolutionary organization that focuses on radicalizing black people, who are typically overlooked by "leftist" spaces, is completely necessary. That's not segregation or creating division, it's the truth. You're free to disagree, but I think non-black people believing it's not necessary only makes it all the more necessary.
Now for some housekeeping stuff, and we'll be done for now. Many of you have asked for ways to support BGR. I am beginning to roll out the first phase of this through paid subscriptions. We now have a BGR Patreon, and we have paid subscribers on Substack as well.
All Patreon tiers include a paid Substack subscription.
All paid Substack subscriptions include the BGR Supporter Tier on Patreon.
Supporting BGR this way ensures that I will be able to get content out faster, and the content will be of a higher quality. Consider subscribing to either today!
That’s all for today,
Peace

Wanted to say that this was a great mention and fantastic video this is addressing. There’s sometimes a question that I hear (typically from white progressives) in leftist spaces about the “lack of black people.” But it’s funny bc when we speak to ppl in our community, many agree with the politics and even individually (or sometimes in black orgs) fight the same battles. But these leftist spaces dont always feel the most inviting, esp to me, a black woman. I would be very happy to organize with other bp with and for our issues.
Once again great job and looking forward to hearing more from you!
