But my confusion was not caused by a lack of understanding of afro-pessimism. It was caused because I, for the life of me, could not understand how what I said could reasonably, in good faith, be called Afro-pessimism.

I simply said I refuse to work with white leftists who don’t prioritize unpacking their white supremacy.

A statement that everyone in the BGR community server completely understood and agreed with. See, I don’t care how much Lenin you can quote, or how much you glaze Che Guevara, unless you address that klan robe lingering within your soul, we’re not comrades, and I don’t see you as useful.

Yesterday, I released a video where I addressed the flaws with big tent parties/organizations/movements.

Here’s a simple summary: You can’t let everyone in your tent, which is so often the case with big tents.

For me, my tent is closed off to anyone who doesn’t see anti-blackness as an equally important issue as capitalism and imperialism. It’s closed off to people who can see how interconnected these issues are and that you can’t simply pick and choose which to fight against. I am done apologizing for feeling this way.

I have two fairly blasphemous statements for someone who creates the content I do. Yet, I believe them wholeheartedly

1. White Leftists and White Liberals are concerningly similar

There’s a reason the word white comes first. It always comes first. Every single criticism I have for white liberals can so easily be aimed at white leftists with minimal changes. I could make a whole video about this, but here’s an example:

Using black people as foundations instead of building on their own

When that guy, Chairman Birdsong (whom I am not a fan of, but that’s beside the point), was showing off his version of the Black Panther Party, there were swathes of white people begging to join.

White Leftists feel this liberal level of entitlement to black spaces.

The real insidious aspect of this is that black revolutionaries have FAR more to lose than white ones do. Tell me a white American leftist who had to spend the rest of their life in political exile in Cuba, while being on the FBI’s most wanted list. Tell me a white leftist who was drugged and murdered by the police after they shot 99 shots in their apartment with their pregnant wife next to them.

White leftists have FAR less to lose than every black revolutionary of the past, yet they do the least. They won’t cut off bigoted family members. They won’t go to marginalized communities and touch base with the actual struggling masses, instead of reading online PDFs from their ivory tower. Why?

Plenty of reasons, but one I find extremely significant is that they expect black people to start and drive the car for them. This is the entitlement that is typically seen in white liberals, but leftists have this problem too.

2. I think racism (specifically white supremacy and anti-blackness) is actually more important to deal with right now than the class war.

Let me explain myself.

If you’re trying to head to a destination, and there’s one barrier in your way preventing you from reaching your destination, a barrier that blocks every single path to your destination, the only logical thing to do is remove the barrier. You can’t go where you need to go until you take care of it, right?

The destination is a country (and a world) where the masses hold the power, overthrowing the ruthless hierarchy of the ruling class. The barrier is racism. The BARRIER IS white supremacy and Anti-Blackness.

Racism has ALWAYS been the largest barrier preventing Americans from class consciousness.

Slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and Mass Incarceration can not be simply reduced to “distractions “from multi-ethnic class consciousness. You think racism is a distraction from class consciousness because you aren’t ready to address racism as an equal evil on par with capitalism.

The reason I am not pessimistic regarding this is I believe that the American masses will be able to destroy this barrier and achieve a system that benefits us all. I belvie that the vehicle to our destination is still a multi-racial one.

So what are my demands? This piece is long enough, so I will give you one. Just one.

Stop excusing racism

Apologize for your racist phase if someone uncovers it and feels hurt. You may have been a kid, but so were your victims.

Stop making excuses for the Klan members in your clan. Unless you are financially reliant on a bigot, you are weak for maintaining a relationship with them.

You think you can be a part of a revolutionary vanguard when you can’t cut off a racist friend? When you can’t call it out when you see it? When you refuse to listen to the material suffering of Black Americans? Give me a fucking break.

Stop making excuses for racism when the one doing it is someone you agree with. I accuse liberals of having this cult mentality, but I am convinced that if a well-liked white leftist man with a sizable platform were caught calling someone a “nigger”, many of you would be writing think pieces in their defense.

Our greatest asset is accountability. The only way this can remain our greatest asset is if we ensure no one is above it. To me, this starts with holding intentional and implicit notions of white supremacy, anti-blackness, and truly any bigotry accountable.

Hope you all enjoy the video. Hoping it doesn’t get removed of demonetized but it’s not looking good lol.

It is a discipline that keeps you steadily down your desired path, whether or not people choose to walk beside you. Allowing others to define me is what sparked my isolation and recent absence. While I appreciate you all being patient with me during my absence, that in no way justifies my sudden disappearance; I could have announced my break at any point.

Anyway, this month has been a great period of reflection and vindication for me. I will discuss some of these with you all.

Who is BGR?

When I first made videos, I was attacked for not aligning with a specific type of Marxism. So, I began calling myself a Marxist-Leninist since I align with it the most. Now many MLs spend their free time shitting on me too.

“BGR is a liberal.”

“BGR isn’t principled enough.”

“BGR doesn’t deserve the platform he has.”

Admittedly, it has made me reactive. Why? In efforts to be who others want me to be, I forgot that this platform grew because of who I was when I started. It’s time to prioritize being myself, because that’s why I have this platform in the first place, while my loudest critics don’t.

I am no longer concerned with any labels assigned to me. Judge me by my words, actions, and enemies. My goals are related to building coalitions and connecting with people who I think are or can be assets for the left movement.

My ideology remains unchanged regardless. You can call yourself anything, and that doesn’t make it true, nor does it mean you uphold all of the standards expected of someone in that category. It also doesn’t make you a good person or an effective activist.

Recent events made me think about this. Witnessing the way some White Marxists disregard black liberation, the way some of my biggest haters were congregating in MY own Discord server, and how the loudest critics on the left are chronically online. But I am not here to bitch and moan. So let’s leave that bullshit behind us and look ahead.

My Video Essays

Let me be clear, I am very proud of my content. No matter how good you get at something, there’s always gonna be someone better than you. I have always understood this. But I must say:

Watching FD Signifier’s Tyler Perry video reminded me that there are levels to this shit, and I am not even close to it yet.

This, surprisingly, isn’t really a skill issue. If it were, my writing would be the weakest part of my videos, and it never is. It’s about time and effort. I don’t spend enough time on my videos out of fear of taking too long. If I began to spend more time researching and editing, my video quality would increase significantly. Of course, this makes it impossible to crank out two videos like this a month.

Moving forward, I will make monthly video essays.

It would be longer, more researched, and with far better editing. My upcoming video will be evidence of this. My video essay is nearly finished with the script rewrite, and will be out this month. I wanted to make this video worth the wait. The goal for every video essay moving forward is to beat the last one. This video is going to be hard for me to beat.

Exploring other content

To my detriment regarding platform growth, I hate producing short-form vertical video content. Yet, I do intend to explore beyond video essays and even writing pieces like this.

Two content forms I’d like to explore soon are fictional writing and streaming.

Full transparency, I fully intend to transition into a career of creative writing if the opportunity arises. It would be a miracle if I could craft a video essay every 6 months at that point. I have thousands of pages of unfinished stories, and I hope to finish something soon.

Becoming a Marxist has significantly shifted the themes of my writing. I used to write fantasy stories from the perspective of Royals, Nobles, and elitist Knights. Now I write from the perspective of farmers, thieves, and aristocratic class traitors.

This is not me trying to virtue signal.

It is almost impossible to write anything that does not address/explore the class war, imperialism, and bigotry, after dedicating so much time to making video content that does the same. These ideologies and contradictions make for more interesting storytelling.

Creative works grounded in Marxist values have the potential to radicalize people in a much different way than reading theory. A way that could prove to be a far more effective starting point than telling someone to read Marx, depending on the person.

Growth, improvement, and reclaiming my identity are not passive acts or free actions by any means. There’s a high cost. I must sacrifice chasing engagement, speed, approval, and all other short-lived goals in favor of making the media I want to make.

I am no longer as interested in being correct, as my peers will correct me. I am far more interested in being effective, and the future of BGR will reflect this.

Actually, I wish complaining about accountability was the only thing these sycophants did. But no, they do far more. They defend these politicians when they are in the wrong, they make excuses for them, and they accuse you of purity testing. Let’s be clear, we can’t hold anyone accountable if you all run to the front lines with pitchforks and torches to defend them uncritically. 

Enough of the game of “guess who”. Who do we need to hold accountable? Three names that many of you aren’t ready to address.

Mayor Mamdani, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, and Sen. Sanders. What did they do?

Anti-Imperialism and The Left

One of the key requirements for being considered, in my humble opinion, is staunch anti-imperialism. You cannot compromise on this value under any circumstances. These three have made, and will likely continue to make, concessions regarding this vital part of our ideology. 

Bernie Sanders is a liberal Zionist. He affirms Israel’s right to exist, took an eternity to admit it was a genocide, and sees the issue of Israeli apartheid and torment of the Palestinian people as “ Netanyahu’s war”. But this is all old news, and I’m not here to serve you leftovers. Let’s talk about his response (the more recent one) regarding the U.S. Kidnapping of President Maduro. 

Let’s be clear, anyone who addresses American imperial action in Venezuela and feels compelled to mention that Maduro is a dictator is either a fool or a spineless coward. Regurgitating Trump administration language to get your point across is only going to weaken your message and make everyone question your intent. 

Whether Maduro is or isn’t a dictator is completely irrelevant.

America has no right to play the role of the world police, judge, jury, or executioner. Constantly reiterating that Maduro is a dictator simply manufactures consent and public support for the Trump Administration’s imperialism. Especially when it’s clear that the goal is not the liberation of the Venezuelan people, but material gains for the wealthiest in our country. 

Calling Castro a dictator was an excuse for the Cuban economic sanctions that are still harming the country today. Calling Gaddafi a dictator was an excuse to destabilize Libya. Calling the leaders of other countries dictators and fabricating, overexaggerating, or leveraging “evil” actions they “committed” is a textbook excuse for America. Whether it’s claims of narco-terrorism, developing nukes, or any weapons of mass destruction.

Bernie’s statement annoys me so deeply because he should know what this language does. Being anti-imperialist requires tact (tact in this circumstance meaning strategic, not politeness), and his statement had none. Speaking of lacking tact, let’s address the other two. 

Zohran, AOC, and Zionist Apologia

I don’t believe Zohran Mamdani is a Zionist. Less certain about AOC at this point, however (I am giving her too much credit, she’s a liberal Zionist too). But I am certain that they both have an issue with engaging in Zionist apologia. 

In Queens on Thursday, there was a pro-Palestinian protest. During this protest, there were Pro-Hamas chants. (Mainstream media seems to leave out the fact that there were Jewish protesters in the crowd. Interesting detail to miss, ain’t it?) 

Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization. A label that carries so little moral weight, it feels ridiculous every time someone attempts to use it as “valid criticism.” The United States is a nation that aids and commits acts of global terrorism constantly. When Hamas attacks colonizers infringing upon their people’s human rights, it’s terrorism. When America bombs foreign nations, killing civilians, it’s called geopolitics. Who’s the real terrorist?

Condemning the Revolutionaries = Victim Blaming 

Condemning Hamas is as asinine as condemning a slave revolt. Claiming that Hamas represents “killing all Jews” is the same as claiming that slave revolts in America represented killing all white people. Zohran’s condemnation of protected speech is disappointing to say the least. It’s not defensible either.

Zohran could fly to Tel Aviv right now, and kiss Netanyahu’s ass, and he’d get called an antisemite all over again tomorrow.

Nothing he does at this point will stop these attacks, and trying to appease the Zionists at this point only makes the left lose faith in him. His apparent anti-Zionism was a major aspect of his appeal. 

But from the footage I saw, they pulled up on him and asked him how he felt. So there’s at least an “excuse” there (too bad he doubled down on Twitter). 

Then there’s AOC. Her statement on the pro-Hamas chant was so unbelievably bad, I thought it was satire at first. To have THIS level of condescension when you’re already on thin ice with the left is actually insane. 

AOC may be one of the rare left-wing grifters. This is characterized by her inconsistencies as she teeters between being a democratic socialist and the second coming of Nancy Pelosi. Condemns Israeli aggression and Palestinian resistance at the same time. Votes on both pro and anti-Israel measures. A member of DSA, yet a loyalist for establishment democrats. Doesn’t support primary challenges of powerful democrats, yet got into office doing the same thing. Zohran is consistent, Bernie is consistent, but AOC is not. 

The reason I am focusing on her more than the other two is because her career trajectory has far more possibilities that could potentially alter U.S. politics. Bernie’s career will end sooner rather than later, and Zohran at this point is unlikely to seek anything beyond the Mayor of NYC. 

We may very likely end up with Senator Ocasio-Cortez, or even President Ocasio-Cortez. And these races will absolutely require further betrayal of the left ideology, yet many of us will fall for it and be funneled back into the Democratic Party. This is why it’s important for people like me, and all of you reading this, to draw the line in the sand for what is and isn’t left. 

Takeaways in case you forget everything I wrote earlier:

1. You are not an anti-imperialist/anti-colonialist if you constantly find excuses to shed tears for the perpetrators. We are leaving all sympathies for the devil behind. It’s up to you if you’d like to be left behind with it. 

2. Being Anti-Genocide and Anti-Zionist are NOT the same thing. Be both. Opposing the act of genocide is the bare minimum. You can do so (aesthetically, not materially) without directly rejecting the state of Israel. Opposing Zionism is a rejection of the state and ideology that engages in genocide and other heinous acts for its gain. 

3. Anti-Zionism is the new meta. I stand by my previous statements that you will gain far more support from the average person these days, being a staunch anti-Zionist rather than an Israel apologist. Our next elected President will be the candidate who opposes Israel the most. Mark my words.

So where do we even begin?

Fascism is here

We need to stop talking about American Fascism like it’s currently on its way to our house. It’s already on our street, and is kidnapping and murdering our neighbors. It’s threatening surrounding countries with invasion. Fascism is here right now, and it’s as ugly as it’s ever been.

The Republican party is the face of American fascism, and their base just eats the shit up. The party successfully scapegoats hard-working immigrants and migrants as the cause of their white working class base’s suffering, while they pick their pockets, cut their wages, and manipulate them for labor.

The white working class in America has always been easy for the ruling class to manipulate, and will continue to be so until they unlearn the generations of racist and reactionary political ideology passed down to them. President LBJ acknowledged this in the 60s, and it’s still true today.

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” LBJ

This leaves us with an extremely vital question:

What are we supposed to do?

Most of us know the answer, and yet, we run from it.

Historically, the best solution for dealing with fascists is, and has ALWAYS been, revolution. An organized uprising of the working class against the ruling class, replacing the capitalistic fascist government with a truly democratic one run by and owned by the people.

This truth is exactly why I view liberals with such disdain.

Seeing the liberal reaction to everything going on in the past weeks has only affirmed my beliefs

The Democratic party is a useless organization, and the liberal politicians and content creators are gonna convince you that you can trust the party to help you. They will continue trying to make you believe you can vote fascism away. We tried all that with Biden and look where it got us:

• Increased police funding

• Increased ICE funding

• A delayed investigation into Trump, preventing him from going to prison

• A fucking GENOCIDE

He ran on being the Anti-Trump liberal whom we need to settle for (settle for Biden was literally a slogan). All he did was give Trump an alley-oop for all the evil he is doing now, after beating his sidekick in 2024. Speaking of Kamala Harris…

I am so sick and tired of you smug, racist (yes, racist), sycophantic liberals trying to use the state of America today as a Kamala Harris “I told you so” campaign. Using someone’s death to push your narrative is the type of activity you scream at republicans for, but I guess it’s fair game when it promotes lukewarm liberalism, right? Both American political parties are certainly not the same, but they sure as fuck fit the same shoe more often than not.

WE told YOU she wouldn’t win if she refused to reject a genocide. All she had to do was say no to the literal devil (Netanyahu), and she couldn’t be bothered to do that. I understand that you liberals may not consider Arab lives to be human lives equal to yours, but we on the REAL left do. The line starts with anti-imperialism, and you fail miserably.

It’s 2026. Kamala Harris lost, it was her fault, and it’s time to tighten up and move the fuck on.

It’s 2026. I will not tolerate any more smug liberal gaslighting from the party that actively allowed this to happen.

It’s 2026. We will not tolerate the gaslighting from the party whose presidential candidate ran the policies of funding ICE and enforcing these unjust immigration laws. We are sick and tired of you spineless ghouls.

If you want to join the real fight against fascism, you must be ready to reject the liberal ideology for a far more effective and revolutionary one. No more half measures. No more thinking that “reform” and “settling” is enough. It’s not, and it never was.

We need to focus on the three B’s. Books, Blicks, and Boycotts.

Books

If you truly feel the passion and the obligation to be an anti-fascist activist, it is imperative that you read some Marxist theory and other revolutionary books. Reading on its own is not revolutionary, but it teaches you why it’s necessary. You don’t need to wait for a reading list from me. Plenty of people have already made one.

Blicks

The arming of the left in this country is long overdue. We have our 2nd amendment right, and we must exercise it to ensure our self-defense when up against state-funded domestic terrorists invading our communities. Get a blicky, get a rifle, learn how to use them safely, and convince your allies to do the same. You have these rights for a reason

Boycotts

Every single company offering even a smidgen of support to ICE needs to be boycotted immediately. You should ensure you never set foot in a Hilton hotel for the rest of your life. You should never go back to Spotify, even though they finally took off the ICE recruitment ads. Comb through EVERY politician’s voting record on supporting ICE , and make sure it haunts them for the rest of their careers and lives.

ICE shall be melted and turned into water for the bong we will hit once the American Empire finally collapses, and something far better rises from the ashes.

One of my flaws is the feeling that I need to do everything on my own. Especially when it’s something so deeply personal and important to me like BGR.

It’s become very clear after episodes 5ish of my last podcast that podcasting is one of the few things I am incapable of doing by myself.

To me, the beauty of a podcast is the back and forth between co-hosts. Even if it’s one person primarily leading the conversation, being able to bounce ideas off another person is just unmatched.

So joining me on this new podcast is my brother and our close friend. Two of my day ones for BGR. They saw everything about BGR behind the scenes MONTHS before my first video. So if there’s anyone I am happy to share this podcast with, it’s these two.

This episode was a test run to see how our dynamic translates into podcast format. Go easy on us for now, and you’ll be shocked at how much we’ll evolve by episode 2.

It’s Pat, back with the first BGR Substack article of 2026, and the first one in a long LONG time. But today marks the beginning of a new era of BGR. It’s been over a year since I started BGR on Substack, and I, as a creator as well as this audience, have grown to insane degrees.

Here, I will clarify the BGR mission moving forward. Let’s start with an introduction for new readers and a reminder for you Day 1’s.

What is BGR?

Black Green Red (BGR) is an independent political media project. It exists to produce content centered around sociopolitical journalism, commentary, investigation, and analysis.

The three colors represent the core focus:

• Black for Black Liberation

• Green for Climate Justice

• Red for the Revolutionary Socialism

There seems to be confusion regarding what BGR is, so let’s reiterate

BGR IS:

• Not A political party (No, you cannot become a card-carrying member of BGR) (Yes, several people have asked)

• Not a movement

• Not an organizing body

• Not a moral authority

• Not an educational replacement

• Not a replacement for on-the-ground IRL organizing

If you expect BGR to be any of these things, BGR will go out of its way to disappoint you. I am not your savior.

What is my “role”?

I am a Marxist, (Revolutionary) Socialist, political commentator, and independent journalist. I am not an unbiased reporter. I am a left-wing propagandist who investigates the class struggle (particularly in America) and uses Marxist theory as a framework for analysis.

Many run from the word “propaganda”. But in reality, it’s a neutral term. It’s not a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s indeed a thing. CNN, FOX, CBS, NY Times, they’re all propaganda. A key difference is that I am telling you upfront.

I’ll also tell you this upfront: I am not aiming to be anything that I haven’t listed earlier.

• I am not a movement leader.

• I am not a community organizer.

• I am not a political theorist.

• I am not a spokesperson for the left.

You do not expect these things from any other left creator or any independent journalist. Don’t expect it from me either.

BGR Editorial Principals

There is a set of content and ideological standards that BGR will operate on. This includes the following principles:

• Class-centered analysis, rejecting liberal and conservative identity politics

• Anti-Imperialism grounded in addressing its consequences

• Skepticism of the state and corporate sources and narrative

• Evidence-first, even if said evidence destroys my personal beliefs

• No party loyalty (Democratic, Republican, DSA, PSL, Green, etc.)

• Focus on systems rather than specific individuals (unless a specific individual is a case study of a system, ie, Zohran Mamdani and Democratic Socialism)

• Amplifying rather than substituting (I will analyze and amplify the voices of movements rather than speak for them)

I will almost certainly make mistakes. When I do, I will hold myself accountable for them. Whether that’s issuing retractions or clarifications regarding my content. I do not intend to aim for purity and perfection. I aim for honesty and clarity. You can all hold me accountable as well by utilizing the commenting features on all platforms.

Should I notice that my content has an error or inaccuracy that needs correcting, I will correct it within 24 hours. For YouTube, a pinned clarifying statement in the comments and description. For Substack, the original post will be republished with the necessary changes.

Socialist CNN

While I intend to put much of my effort into ensuring that BGR grows significantly this year, it will not be my only major project this year. The left needs a stronger media ecosystem, and this means going beyond podcasts and video essays. It includes news media as well.

I am currently developing a socialist news network.

While this project is led by me, it will not be a “BGR” project, and the name will have nothing to do with BGR. The original plan was BGRNN (BGR News Network), but since then, BGR has become my identity, my voice, and even my nickname rather than the identity of a group or movement.

This news organization will not only belong to me because an independent left new media organization must be able to outlive a single voice. It will belong to the future team to represent the voices of the masses. So the name should reflect that.

While I am not yet ready to release details of this news media project, I am ready to say these important facts:

• The network will report the class struggle. This includes platforming the voices of the American working class, investigating issues impacting our quality of life, and upholding principles of transparency, honest reporting, and socialism.

• The end goal is on the ground reporting. While I imagine the first phases will primarily be online, and the network will always have online content, there is a clear end goal of prioritizing on-the-ground reporting.

• I am currently building a team consisting of volunteers on Discord. If you are interested, please consider joining.

• I want the online launch to start early this year.
